I can't even begin to tell you how cool and Bizare Makers Faire was. Seriosuly, every square inch was just....mind blowing. Let me explain:

Nathaniel shocked us all by showing something to us something none of us had ever seen before!  Right in front of a crowd of fans he whipped out his...

..new violin !!
Electric Violin preview!

Amazing work by  Molly "porkshanks"

So, this thing has a sound reasponsive lighting array of vacume tubes that fires different colors in pitch to the music he plays on it!  Hot damn!

Dispite Nathaneil exposing himself, we had a huge crowd for our concert, and played between to 30 foot statues that exploded in flames in time to the music!  (no, seriosously. I watched the crowd illuminate by fire!)

Our show went off with out a hitch (LAIR!). We were introduced with the Jake Von Slatt himself:

A sharp dressed man
With a flattering and funny as hell little write up on ABney Park. It was fantastic, Jake if your reading this, consider posting it!

Then we got onstage and made a mess of the whole thing ;)

You know, I think you need a custom NeverWas Haul, just for those times when you might need to recce on the ground.
7th-May-2008 05:19 pm (UTC)
Actually, they have offered to let us shoot a music Video there!!

I've heard awesome stories from a bunch of separate groups who were near or in the front row about how awesome the show was and how crazy your fans got! Also, I saw porkshanks' absolutely astonishing incredible amazing Violin work on her art site but I had no idea it was even responsive to his music! That's absolutely amazing. I'm extremely jealous of everyone who got to attend and more than disappointed that I missed it.

Do you think that you will perform again next year? After hearing how amazing it was, I certainly wouldn't miss it again!
7th-May-2008 05:20 pm (UTC)
Well, we'd certainly say yes if they invited us!
7th-May-2008 05:23 pm (UTC)
You guys were so awesome!

You probably couldn't see it but the operators did a great job syncing the beating of the giant metal lady's fiery heart to the climax of Airship Pirates - it was EPIC stuff!

By the way, the "Recruiting Handbill" I read was written by Mad Molly Friedrich, the very same Molly of the mods who made Nathan's new violin.
7th-May-2008 05:33 pm (UTC)
Really? Awesome! I'll have to thank her for that!
7th-May-2008 05:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah! I'm good with brass, but with the words, not so much!
7th-May-2008 06:02 pm (UTC)
You did pretty good in the interview/pannel/thingy, and that was weird!
7th-May-2008 06:20 pm (UTC)
Yeah that was "interesting" and you were pretty impressive yourself! The only reason I was willing to go up there was that I knew Libby "Brass Panties" Bulloff [info]carpe_jugulum would be sitting next to me!

The podcast will eventually be up on iTunes and here: http://heathergold.com/conversation/authentic-to-yourself/ but it has not been posted yet.

I could see it, and man, was it awesome. I've been telling all my friends that they haven't seen anything until they've seen Abney Park by the light of huge sculptures on fire.
7th-May-2008 05:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah - it was pretty much the most awesome thing ever to be experiencing that show between thirty-foot gouts of flame.

You guys looked and sounded great, and it was lovely to meet you!

7th-May-2008 06:02 pm (UTC)
Thank you!

Yes, I can't wait to see video...I sure hope someone took some!
7th-May-2008 06:35 pm (UTC)
I saw the first half of the show and it was awesome. You guys are a fucking great band. I am going to make sure I catch every show I possibly can from now on.
the "steamers" in the crowd looked like they were going to die of happiness that they were actually seeing you guys!
I was planning to draw while you were playing but I forgot my sketchbook, so when you told everybody where the merch booth was, I raced back to help Mo. I missed what I assume was a total Airship Pirate freakout!
I did draw Nathaniel:

Saw you, then promptly went and bought four new cds I haven't been able to stop listening to. Woman at your cd stand completely insulted my boyfriend, which I found funny and he's still complaining about. Ah well, thanks for the great show and music! When you playing the bay area again? Soon I hope!
7th-May-2008 07:55 pm (UTC) - Re: more!
HAH! What!? They did!? What'd they say!?

To be honest, those girls at the stand while we where onstage are kind of strangers to me, but strangers who were kind enough to help us out in a pinch. Sorry!!
7th-May-2008 07:31 pm (UTC) - OMG
finally decent light at one of your shows and its all the way in the bay area cruel cruel and... what? no ass-shots?? FTW?
7th-May-2008 08:20 pm (UTC)
This was one of the best weekends of my life. Thank you so much for being there and giving such a fantastic concert. You guys are so down to earth, it's rare that you'll find a band that is willing to chat and hang out with their fans so much.

(Also, your children were adorable.)

Cheers!
7th-May-2008 08:26 pm (UTC)
Hey, any time! i hope we can do it again.

Refresh my memory, which was you?
7th-May-2008 08:36 pm (UTC)
This is Tessa (Lady Almira), from the H.M.S. Chronabelle. We apologize for making you feel like Elvis with our cheering. It was a long day and we were very excited for the concert. :)

Here's a photo that we took with you: http://hmschronabelle.deviantart.com/art/Ophelia-and-Chronabelle-84851859
7th-May-2008 08:42 pm (UTC)
no, don't apologize! I thought it was awesome! You and your friends made it a cheery event, and for that I thank you!

Hey, great picture, may I repost?
7th-May-2008 08:44 pm (UTC)
Of course! We would be honored.
10th-May-2008 02:50 am (UTC)
I completely second everything the lovely lady just said, and am only regretful that I missed out on attending the panel and the second day, but the few hours I was there were absolutely amazing, really great fun. I hope you come back to the area soon, but not too soon, as my position just to the left of the asforementioned Lady Almira in the front row has temporarily damaged my hearing, in a very good way though. : )

Best of luck to you all,

(and the kidlets really were ever so cute)

These are fantastic. Who is the dancer with the green hair? She is absolutely gorgeous!

8th-May-2008 12:26 am (UTC) - Authenticity's great!
I realized something wonderful this weekend-- I love the fact that my personal celebrities are so, well, personable!

Thank you for being such friendly and approachable people in the midst of your fame!

(and I can't wait to see you guys at the Edison in LA!)
8th-May-2008 12:35 am (UTC) - Re: Authenticity's great!
Aim to please!

See you then. Bring your little hat!
8th-May-2008 02:01 am (UTC)
The show was wonderful, and hanging out with you guys was fantastic! It was great to actually get to meet you, after playing e-mail tag with you for the past couple months! I was very happy to have done my part (however small) in spreading the word that you were coming to the Bay... Though my printer is mad at me right now! Poor thing got quite the workout, printing up fliers! I'll just have to see what I can do about finding more venues/events in the area, and getting more and more people on the Abney Park bandwagon down here!

It was great to meet you all at the Faire. You put on a great set in spite of your momentary technical difficulties. Everyone was great but I was really really impressed with Nathan. He SHREDS on that violin!

8th-May-2008 07:10 am (UTC) - Loved the concert!
I second all the stuff everyone else said--and here's my two cents.

The concert (and socializing at the booth) were even better than I'd hoped they'd be. Coming from an easily-disappointed perfectionist, that's really worth something.

And I was absolutely tickled when Nathaniel, Molly, et al. honked and waved when they saw me crossing the street on Sunday on the way back to the car with my friends. Makes me feel like I'm part of the steampunk community or something.

Also... those photos are excellent. I'll check mine out and see if any of mine are worth forwarding/posting/whatever. My video footage of Sleep Isabella turned out pretty decent except the sound is horrific due to resonance of the railing I used for a support.

What wonderful pictures! And I just love your music! I so hope to see you all in concert one day!!
8th-May-2008 08:43 pm (UTC)
Hey mister, I'm very glad you like the photos. I was en route to meet a friend when I heard this great music and then wandered over to see what the fuss was about. Then I ducked around the barrier and snapped off those images (and totally ditched my friend, who has since forgiven me for she is in love with your music, too).

An amusing bit: I had no media nor press credentials (I'm just shootin' for fun, see?) and a security guard challenged me. I lied and said they had gotten ripped off (lanyards are horrible like that) and he absolutely wasn't buying it, given me this look of "I've heard this before, kid," when he paused and asked, "well, are you with the band?" The answer to which was "absolutely."

I guess it pays to look the part (coincidentally or not!)

HHAHA! Great story!

Yeah, the whole event those guys were hasseling everyone with their "CREDENTIALS!?". I found it amusing that NOBODY had credentials, they hassled EVERYBODY, and by the end of our set their were stil a dozen photographers beyond the barriers!
8th-May-2008 10:47 pm (UTC)
Damn. I wasn't there to see Nathan's thing.

...

that just came out all kinds of wrong.

heh.
