Fun With iTunes
15th-May-2010 09:21 pm

Okay, so Abney Parks new album is finally on iTunes, as of not very long ago. (click logo above to see) I dont have numbers yet, but I found some ammusing things.

This first one is my fault: they didn't have a music genre for "Steampunk" (I KNOW!) so i had to think of where we'd fit best. Obviouly, we didn't fit in ANY of the music catagories very well, so I picked "World Music".

So, look what is now the third most popular world music CD:

BWAHAHAHAH!

Next, lets look at what are the most popular Abney Park Songs. Oh my, surprise surprise, Airship Pirate!

I also want to say , PEOPLE! Dr. Calgori Rocks! Whats wrong with you!?!?

Once I transfer stuff to my ipod, I change the genre to Steampunk. So hey, it's a DIY solution! This, of course, does nothing for people being able to find a Steampunk genre on iTunes...

I cut my AP teeth on Stigmata Martyr but off of the new album I'd have to give my support to the darker tunes. Stretched on your grave and Dark and twisty road to name a couple. Still, the whole album is a wonderful evolution piece and I love where the Park is heading with their new identity.

Dr. . Calgori is one of my favoritest songs!
It is soooo Steampunk.
I just finished reading "scar Night". It is a dark fantasy novel with heavy Steampunk influences. The mad scientist antagonist in the story reminded me a lot of Dr. Calgori.

I need you to get onto Zune Marketplace. Don't know who you'd need to talk to, or how you'd do it - but the other three albums are up there. Congrats on the iTunes win though.

I always have to make my own Steampunk category in whatever mp3 organizer I'm using that day, and AP is always the only band in there. XD Though I'm pretty disappointed to see Root of All Evil down that far on the list. It's my favorite. (Haven't heard the new album, yet, so that may change.)
16th-May-2008 06:40 pm (UTC)
well, thats actually middle of the list...there are a bunch more down there.

Really its just about the fact that the new album is getting everyones attention, and root of all evil if from...4 albums ago???
16th-May-2008 06:43 pm (UTC)
Pffft. I'm just reluctant to accept change and difference. I cling to my old standards.

It's true that ITunes doesn't have a SteamPunk genre yet (who do we petition!!??) but it does list two SteamPunk podcasts:
SteamPunk Spectacular
Zen and the Art of SteamPunk.

I plan on giving them a listen to see if they have anything substantial, intriguing, fun to say.
17th-May-2008 04:39 am (UTC) - Dr Calgori...
there's nothing wrong with the good doctor. it's a great song!

17th-May-2008 03:23 pm (UTC)
hey, do you buy anycyance still have layered psd's of the art you did for us? I have an idea...
20th-May-2008 04:18 pm (UTC)
I will double check and make sure! I know I salvaged most everything from my computer fiasco, but haven't actually opened up all of the psd's to inspect them yet.

Oooo - whatcha schemin', Captain? :D :D
20th-May-2008 04:32 pm (UTC)
I was thinking a movie style trialer for the website, and theirs a cool 3d effect I can do for that if I have layered versions of that art!
20th-May-2008 05:22 pm (UTC)
Oh that just sounds killer! I will look at them today and see if they are intact, and get right back to ya!

Now we just need Lost Horizons added to Rhapsody to complete your online presence and access to the masses! (The other three albums are there, surely we can get the fourth one included, too...?)

Rob,

Congrats on being in the top 3! I'm just not sure what the heck "World Music" is. haha

Dr. Calgori is my absolute favorite song that you do. I added it to my mySpace profile so that your crew would get a little exposure among my friends.

Airship Pirate is catchy, but its probably not in my top 10 of your songs.

Just as a side note, today I was surprised to here someone humming a tune and singing under their breath. I recognized it as Sleep Isabella and started a discussion right away. Funny thing is that it was at Church. haha

Hoping the best for you, the band and the genre!

Peace.

- Steve

Even more proof that itunes is taking over the world. I do like Dr. Caligori. Reminds me of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and it's always fun to be reminded of a psychotic with a somnambulist. But, I like Airship Pirate better because, hey, I'm a pirate. It's a no-brainer.

Don't you need pan pipes to be in world music? Steampunk from the Andee's!

Foooot fooot fu foot foot foot! etc
20th-May-2008 01:13 pm (UTC)
oh, don't tempt me, man!
23rd-May-2008 01:37 am (UTC)
out of curiosity, how much of the money does the band actually get from a purchase from iTunes? also, how difficult was it for you to get the bands material there?
23rd-May-2008 02:15 pm (UTC)
72%.

Supereasy. Sell your cd on CDBaby, opt-in for digital distrio.

Hey, Dr. Calgori is my second favorite, at least! hehehe
