Robert, the link doesn't work.
8th-Oct-2008 05:12 pm (UTC)
thanks.

...um, try now?
8th-Oct-2008 05:15 pm (UTC)
Perfect, thanks -- and very cool!

8th-Oct-2008 05:17 pm (UTC)
So kick ass!!!

Now you got me thinking to find out how much to rent the Goodyear Blimp down here in SoCal. :)
8th-Oct-2008 05:18 pm (UTC)
*sigh* what a lovely site. there was a zepplin tour in London during the summer, i believe run by the same group. Wsh i could have afforded it as its a dream to travel in an airship one day.

Oh, just you wait. I'll get the Aetherborne up and running in no time and then we can have canon fights from coast to coast. If only Tesla had left some kind of manual for these arc lights. I might not be able to find you in the dark, you have total advantage!
Okay, I'm done with that silliness... Or am I?? I am a captain after all. I just wish there weren't legal problems with wearing my dad's old marines pins. :/
8th-Oct-2008 05:38 pm (UTC)
That looks like so much fun! I hope you guys and the other lucky passengers have a blast! :)
8th-Oct-2008 05:39 pm (UTC)
You need at least one other zeppelin so you can apply your piracy, though. Otherwise, you're the only Airship Pirates out of a job.
8th-Oct-2008 05:43 pm (UTC) - $785!
"Tickets on the inaugural flight are $785"
Dear god thats a lot.

BTW Tell BoingBoing to do something on this

As hits to that might make what ever spent on that easyer to deal with as I am guessing it cost fun amounts of bucks to get them to let you rent out the air ship for few trips.
8th-Oct-2008 05:48 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
Yeah, its freaking boat loads of money, but the first flight sold out in 12 minutes.

Airship Ventures said, "This is how much money."

I staggered back, grabbed the rail, and said "well, I guess we can try and see what people say."

Next thing ya know, we have to add a second flight to accommodate everybody!
8th-Oct-2008 06:18 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
wow, a second flight, that's amazing

apparently i am doing something wrong, cause i could not afford that either

cool article!!!
8th-Oct-2008 06:57 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
I'm thinking perhaps -you- are not the pirates, after all. ;)
8th-Oct-2008 07:06 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
Well, in all fairness to Airship Ventures: think about buying fuel for a vehicle that nobody owns, and not even anybody uses that fuel. I can't imagine its cheap.
8th-Oct-2008 07:12 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
I know. They may not even be making that much profit in the end. It's just... yee gad.

Don't get me wrong, the coolness factor makes it attractive. I'm just hoping they do well enough business that the price can come down some day.

What are they using for fuel?
8th-Oct-2008 07:18 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
Helium gives the lift. That's all I know.
8th-Oct-2008 07:43 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
It's my understanding that that's the big Airship Dilemma.

All well and good to fill up the gas bag when you're on the ground and want to go up. But once you're up, there's only one way to come down. You've got to let the helium out, which is basically tossing dollars into the air.

Unless you've got powerful enough engines to push against the buoyancy, but then you're burning up a different type of fuel.

Or unless your take-off and landing points are at the same altitude you want to be at.

Or unless you can find a way to convert helium gas into something more dense in midair and then reconvert it later, which either isn't possible or no one has been able to figure out.

Get them to post the MTV thing any way as I was told if that article gets a great deal of hits they might do more of the topic or give it a hour run with a more in depth things on the music..They use the MTV News stops some times as a test to see if it would be worth it to do more.

If that was to be a go it would mean you and a buch of other people get more air time =get more fans= thus more CDs ,merch, dreck payed for= thus bigger toys for your small children= happy people being you. (I think)

Ya...

BTW you want me to hook you in with this film I am working with ? http://www.repo-opera.com/

9th-Oct-2008 04:33 pm (UTC) - Re: $785!
Very cool!

Yeah, we'd be interested but it looks like we've missed the boat on this.

Envy--it is a deadly sin, and it looks like I'm dyin'.

In a certain religious group with which I'm affiliated, we discussed the possibilities of different types and locations of temples. One of the odder ideas, which I suggested, was having an airship as the temple--that way, when restless locals get fed up and come with pitchforks and torches, we simply release the tether lines and head to some other unsuspecting town...Think that would work?
8th-Oct-2008 07:09 pm (UTC)
sounds good to me, except one thing:

airship + pitchfork = bad
8th-Oct-2008 08:05 pm (UTC)
Point (or three of them) very well taken, Captain!

Perhaps, then, investing in a good team of snipers would also be good, to take out the pitchfork folks before they get too close? Eeesh...

And, I suppose torches could be a problem as well...If it were a hydrogen operation...

THE AIRSHIP PIRATES WHO CAN AFFORD THE $800 FARE, THAT'S WHO! T______________T

Seriously, no hard feelings... no hard feelings... I'm really happy for you guys... I'm just kind of weeping over here a bit... don't mind me.

So far I've had three of my friends send me the link because of the BoingBoing post.

Has your site been slashdotted yet?
9th-Oct-2008 01:15 am (UTC)
not that I know of.
9th-Oct-2008 01:18 am (UTC)
You'd notice, mostly because the site's server would crash. Your web stats should be pretty interesting from today, at any rate. :)
