Abney Park's Dark Christmas
15th-Dec-2010 03:17 pm

Years ago, as a joke…and with too much rum in our Egg Nog…me and Kristina wrote a Christmas album. Not a “Good” Christmas album (I think we only spent a couple evenings on this) but here it is.

Strangely enough this got really popular. Especially our cover of Dance Of The Sugar Plumb Fairies, which still gets club play all of the planet. Weird.

So, if you bought all the other Abney Park CD's at concerts, and therefore don’t want to pay the $45 bucks to buy Vault Access, here is Abney Park’s Dark Christmas all by itself, for $7 bucks.

When you buy it, I will email you a URL from which to download it. Enjoy…with rumied up eggnog!

"carol of the bells" is one of my faves :D

I'd have to second that. :)

Me too. To be absolutely honest, I like this album. Its just we didn't do a very serious job of it, and some peoples Christmas albums are SO good, with freaking choirs and crap...so I feel a little guilty with how silly we were being.

Honestly, that what makes it endearing, and a solid effort. There's something to be said for silly as well. A christmas album can really flop if one's taking oneself too seriously.

This is so awesome of you to do this. I had been lusting for this album for a while now, but I haven't had the $45 to spare to just buy everything else along with it by paying for vault access, especially since I want to eventually buy everything else on CD as I have the money and opportunity. So I am seriously happy that you've done this. I intend to buy it just as soon as I get home tomorrow.

Thank you much for doing this. :D

Are there extra tracks besides the 8 I already picked up from the Vault?

now, the question becomes...you don't happen to have a larger version of that art, do you?

Purchased! Quite looking forward to it.

Just wanted to say that I downloaded this album when I bought access to the vault last year, and it's one of my favorites. I wound up building a holiday season driving playlist around it.

Joke or not, you did a good job on it.

I shall have to procure that one!

I hate "Xmas songs" with a passion like the flames of a hundred steam engines...

However, I adore proper Christmas carols--despite having no connection to the religion or the myths for which they were made at this point in my life--because so many of them are such damned good music. A number of Christmas albums are on my rotation, and yourself and the band do such good turns on more "traditional" things so often, I'd not be surprised if this turns out to be an album I'd quite enjoy!

Some of the arrangements remind me of this:

(Which also has the longest version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen EVAR)

Dude, were you watching Nightmare Before Christmas before, during, and after recording Rudolph?

I ordered and paid for this over the weekend but haven't had the download url yet. Is there anything else I need to do to get it?
